singing parties

13 year olds from Stratford work it with Little Mix Gold Party

Teenagers from Stratford had a brilliant Pop Star Party at Born in a Barn Studio over the weekend choosing to sing ‘Move’ by Little Mix for their Gold party.

Izzy has just turned 13 and what better way to celebrate than having a party at BB Studio with her friends. Gold parties focus on getting a great song recorded and filmed so after the party I can create a very cool video for them all. With more time to focus on the song it is nice to help the girls sing all the parts and get what we need for a great sound - Move is not the easiest song to sing but this group did a great effort at replicating the song in the time we had so well done all of you. There were some great characters in this group and plenty of interaction making the filming easy to capture cool moments for the video.

Well done everyone.

Parties at the barn are all unique and powered by the kids - if you know any kids who have a birthday popping up in the next year then why not let them know about Pop Star Party!!

This Is Me - actually it's not, it's Eve.

Eve had the last party of the school year yesterday with a select few mates from school. Her birthday is actually in August but her very organised parents sorted out her party just before everyone shoots off to hot places over the Summer - not that we need to pop anywhere right now - this mad heatwave is relentless.

Singing Camilla Cabello's 'Havana' seemed entirely appropriate in the heat and fortunately the group all sang very well helping the song to be recorded quickly - even the rap didn't prove too tricky and Eve delivered it with conviction!

Photoshoot and Booster Buffet next and they munched through everything ready for the filming session.  The Greatest Showman really does have the best soundtrack - 'This Is Me' starts off quiet but quickly builds and stays full on to the end making a song for the party atmosphere and easy to make a video to.  The girls did well, glow sticks, a formal routine for 'this is me' bits and some very cool shades.  Video looks and sounds ace.

Afterwards when I was trying to ask which out of her 10 birthday parties did she think was the best I got cut short before finishing the question and Eve just shouted 'This One' - my work is done!

Top party to top a great school year.

Oh - and yet another inspired cake - well done Mum!

In October this year I will be running the Dublin marathon so am currently training 4 days a week to build strength & passion for running - I will be running for a charity also and that charity is ChildLine Ireland.

Running in the Global Heatwave

I can't even remember how long this heatwave has been going on, but it's a long time.

It first reared its' ugly head when I was due to run a big distance training run which I had decided I wanted to do at least 30k on and crack the 30k barrier.  Previous to this I had managed 24k (twice) so felt I was ready.  I was - but I was also a bit unprepared and didn't eat anything like enough the night before.  I set off what I though was early enough but after 2 hours the sun came out and just roasted me - luckily I was close to the sports centre at Warwick University so was able to grab so fresh water, but it wasn't enough and the sun soon won the battle against my will to continue.

So yes I experienced the wall at the end of June - it wasn't nice but I guess at least I know about it now.

Tomorrow I am hoping to succeed and have planned out a 33k run, will be piling in the carbs for tea tonight and will be leaving at 5.30am to start the 3 hour run - this will be my longest run to date and I'm told not to push closer to the marathon distance if 42k before the race in October cos it can be detrimental - Im not sure yet - I might give it a go in a month!

Pic below is from when I did the 2 Castles run in June.  Tomorrow is gonna be like running that 3 times!

10 Year Olds from Tamworth Shake It Off with style

Lucy brought a big party of friends to the barn recently and had just an amazing party.  All her party pals were great singers making the recording side of things quick and easy to achieve especially with the first song choice of This Is Me from The Greatest Showman (such a cool song) leaving plenty of time for posing on the red carpet, munching their booster buffet and of course filming their pop video to Shake It Off.

The sun was out (well we are having a heatwave) so we took the filming out onto the decking too after doing the green screen run.  All the kids were smiling and jumping and having fun all the way through each filming run so the video just looks wicked with all those smiley faces.

Her Mum made a very special cake in the design of a mirror ball which had multi coloured and layered inside with surprise skittles inside too - top effort Mum!!

My half marathon challenge(s)

So I decided when I started training this year that I would do 3 things. Follow a training plan (obviously) but also do the marathon distance every month and do a half marathon every month also - clearly the last 2 can be combined but don't have to be.

Today I completed the half marathon for Feb and the marathon distance for Feb - cos I ran 8.5k on Thursday eve, then 11.5k Saturday and 21k today on Sunday.

'So what?' you may be thinking!!

Well indeed so what, but the thing with running is there is so much too it - it's not just stamina or strength but there's the psychological side to it all as well as the physique and nutrition. And clothes - don't forget them and accessories but that's all another blog.

Whenever you run there is always the temptation to stop, after-all nobody is telling me to run - so what drives me? I guess many things do but possibly the main thing is my daughter.

Just incase you don't know me I'm Roger, 47 years old and run a recording studio and part of the business involves running Pop Star Party. I'm married to Rachel and have 1 daughter Grace, who I spend a lot of time with and ever since she was born I have encouraged her to do things well and be successful.  She has been taught to swim by me and last year won her schools gala which I was very happy with.  Since the age of 4 she has learned to ice-skate and last year she competed nationally in an ice skating competition which was an enormous challenge.  Part of that required her to be able to do the splits and be very very supple and fit for pulling the moves on the ice and I spent a year helping her (encouraging her cough cough) to do all the exercises and stuff to be able to do the splits - none of us enjoyed this! But she got there and I think her determination impressed me enough to think I should do something to really challenge myself - which is where running fitted in nicely.

A lot of my family run too - there's heaps of runners in my family and we all have our reasons to run.  The things that go through your head when running are hilarious but whenever I'm feeling like I'm knackered I remind myself of how I push my daughter to 'try harder' or 'do it differently' and so I change the pace a bit or do whatever - but I don't stop!

At the moment it seems to work - I think I'm enjoying the psychology of running more than the physicality of running - maybe this will change as I get to be doing harder distances but right now it's all good.

This Thursday I travel to Ireland for my brother-in-laws' wedding and we are staying in Dublin.  I'm intending on trial running the section of the Dublin marathon which goes through Phoenix Park - this is about 4 miles or something along a straight path on a fairly constant incline so I figure is going to be quite dull.  Knowing how long that section takes will be a good help when I do it for real in October.

As soon as that's done I shall no doubt be indulging in all the usual wedding fun and looking forward to meeting up again with all the guys who were on the stag do in Portugal.  Maybe the next blog post will be on that!!

The Run to Dublin - Marathon Man

OK so I've decided to use this blog site to talk about my marathon training. "What's that got to do with parties?" you quite rightly ask!!  Well read on.

I'm not too good at blogs but want to improve. I'm not too good at running but want to improve. So it makes sense to combine the two eh!

I work with hundreds of kids every year running parties and have chosen to include ChildLine as my charity for the marathon in Dublin which is on Sunday October 28th 2018.

Hopefully later and as things improve I will add all the details and maybe have followers too. So I'm gonna keep blog posts short (especially this one as Im running late today) (pardon the pun) but am excited to start to get this big deal out there.

Training for a marathon starts early and actually i started last year when i trained from January 2017 to September 2017 for the half marathon in Nottingham. I completed it in 2 hours 15 mins which was a bit slower than i had hoped by hey - theres good reasons - more later on that.

This year training has also kinda begun and its exciting because the training will continue wherever I go - I already ran in Portugal in January (during a stag party holiday!) and will be running part of the actual marathon course in Ireland when I'm over there for my brother-in-laws marriage in March. After that Im going to Norway for a family holiday and Portugal again to help a friend developing a property and then hopefully Spain in the Summer, New York and Boston visiting family then the big one back in Ireland in October. So yes its exciting and I want to share it somehow!

So there we go - this is the start.

Cheers

Roger
